The Infamous crisis
On June 28, 2001, Mr. Siboh Hovnanian, Minister of Sports &
Youth suspended the LFA committee for violating its internal
rules & regulations by not relegating the 7 teams involved
into the infamous conspiracy to the second division. The LFA
committee in return carried the case to the FIFA who intervened,
and sent a 3-member delegation to Beirut, Lebanon between July
24 & 27, the delegation met with conflicting parties
including the Minister of Sports & Youth, the LFA committee,
& Tadamoun Sour. As a result of these meetings, FIFA
suspended the Minister's decision regarding the LFA committee,
and called for a general assembly to be held in the second part
of September 2001 to elect a new LFA committee, this election
would be under the supervision of FIFA, and 3-member committee
assigned by FIFA to organize the event that includes (General
Director of Sports & Youth Mr. Zaid Khiami, Chairman of
Lebanese Olympic Committee General Suheil Khouri, & the
president of the former LFA committee Dr. Nabeel El-Raei). The
date was recently set as September 23, 2001 for the general
assembly. |
