Fleifel saves Nejmeh in Last seconds.. March 31, 2002

Nejmeh defeated Al-Ahed [3-2] in the match that took place on Sunday March 31, 2002 at 4:00 p.m., Beirut Sports City stadium. The match goals were scored by Mohammad Halaweh [35'], & Bilal Fleifel [43', 93'] for Nejmeh, and Ahmad Itani [65'], & Youssef Jawhari [75'] for Ahed.

Bourj v Sagesse [0-2].. March 30, 2002

In a day where each game resulted with a 2 goal gap between the winners and losers Sagesse temporarily topped the table once more ahead of Nejmeh’s game against Ahed.  Sagesse’s 2-0 victory over Bourj was played out in a nearly empty Beirut’s Sports City [500 spectators].

Brazilian Tommy Jiacomelli netted the Green’s first goal of the game after a fruitless first half.  It was the Number 9’s ninth league goal, headed home keeping their German coach Theo Bucker happy [54’].  The Green’s fans across the country had little time to wait before their side would net their second goal as Sagesse’s top goal scorer Mohammad Qassas netted his personal 13th [58’].

Sagesse still have a while to recover from their drop of points against Ansar in attempting to claim the title, it would only take Nejmeh not to win a game and the Greens could be in pole position once more.  Bourj's third defeat in a row means nothing position wise as they remain in 7th place – an unexciting mid-table season for the new boys is possibly exactly what they would want.

Salam Zgharta v Shabab al Sahel [0-2].. March 30, 2002

It seems that Salam Zgharta have developed their own pattern winning three games in a row before losing the next.  Not a good day for the around 500 fans that turned up in Tripoli’s Municipal stadium.

Defender Hussein Olleik netted the first goal of the first half for the visitors [35’] (his personal fourth).  Sahel then ensured a 2-0 lead to defend as they went into the break as Abu Saadi sent the ball into the net on the break [45’].

Shabab al Sahel therefore kept the heat on Tadamon for the third place spot as the two remain level on points and only 6 points behind the league leaders.  Salam Zgharta who spent the first 5 weeks at the top of the table now find themselves in 6th spot but almost certain they cannot drop much further.

RC Beirut v Tadamon Tyre [0-2].. March 30, 2002

Tadamon held back this time as they travelled north to Beirut to play Racing in the city’s Municipal stadium in front of only a few spectators.

The last game between the two played out in Tyre was memorable for the season’s biggest victory so far this season [7-0].  However, the Tyreants could manage only two goals in the second half of the game to win this game.  Both goals actually came through Nigerian Kennedy Boboi as he converted the awarded penalty [57’].  He then ended the game with another goal this time a blast into the net with little time left on the clock [80’].

Tadamon 7th league victory on the trot is making up for the four draw run that preceded it and has moved them from 8th to a respectable 3rd place with some talking about them being a late horse in the race, ready to take the lead should the top two falter.  Their next four league encounters are their most crucial.  Racing Club Beirut are still without a victory to their name this season but their best chance comes in their next league game against Homenmen.

Ansar achieves first win in Second round over Homenetmen [2-1].. March 31, 2002

Al-Ansar defeated Homenetmen [2-1] in the match that took place on Sunday March 31, 2002 at 4:00 p.m., Bourj Hammoud stadium. The match goals were scored by Ahmad Shoum [29', 70'] for Ansar, & Peter [60'] for Homenetmen.

Safa defeated Ikhaa Ahley [2-1].. March 31, 2002

Safa defeated Ikhaa Ahley [2-1] in the match that took place on Sunday March 31, 2002 at 4:45 p.m., Beirut Municipality stadium. The match goals were scored by Abdullah Hommsi [14'], & Ali Mohammad [75'] for Safa, and Ahmad Mansour [72'] for Ikhaa.

Homenmen v Ahley Sidon [3-1].. March 30, 2002

The only day’s game not to be an exact 2-0 result Homenmen managed to claim a three pointer against fellow relegation bound Ahley Sidon in Bourj Hammoud [500 crowd].

Homenmen’s Ahmad Kr
ayyem opened the score line for the Armenian club [14’] soon after kick-off.  The visitors from the south then levelled the game only minutes later through their only goal thanks to Senegali Madeo Konati [17’].  Homenmen’s leading scorer, Syrian striker Hassan Ibrahim then regained the lead for his side through his 11th league goal [29’] to make it 2-1.  The only goal of the second half came thanks to Hamlet Mokhtarian [71’] completing Homenmen’s 4th league victory keeping them 5 points behind Ansar in the slim hope of remaining in the top flight.

Ahley have little to celebrate after blowing one of their few opportunities at any points.  They may lie 3rd from bottom, but their yo-yoing between the top two divisions of Lebanese football seems to be on a fate to continue.
