Safa qualified to the semi finals of
Viceroy Cup 2001 after defeating Ikhaa Ahley [3-0] in the match
that took place on Tuesday November 6, 2001 5:45 p.m., at Beirut
Sports City stadium. Safa continued its good performance in the
recent period after defeating Al-Ansar [1-0] on Sunday, and
proved to be on the right track to compete on the Viceroy Cup
title, and after which on the championship. The technical staff
at Safa club was able to make a coherent formation that bonds
among Expertise, youth, & foreign elements. This became
apparent on Tuesday match when Safa dominated the match, scored
3 times, manipulated their opponents, and fascinated their fans
with a large win over the archrival team, Ikhaa Ahley Aley.
On their part, Ikhaa Ahley team was no that bad, at least before
receiving the first goal, after which the team lost its spirit,
and became paralyzed all the way till the end. The First goal
came on the 30th. minute, with a counter attack started by Nabih
El-Jurdi who delivered the ball to Khodor Salameh who converted
it into the net. The second goal came on the 38th. minute with a
cross from Nabih El-Jurdi that reached the head of Ahmad Naamani
into the net. The third goal was scored with a penalty kick by
Hisham Shleikh on the 85th. minute after an illegal obstruction
by Vatcheh Jakarian of Ikhaa on Abdullah Hommsi of Safa inside
the penalty area.
Safa secured its place in the semi-finals, and shall meet the
second team of the first group, the identity of which to be
known after the end of Nejmeh x Tadamoun Sour match on Wednesday
November 7, 2001. As for Ikhaa Ahley team, they must defeat
Al-Ansar in the last match of the First round on Thursday
November 8, 2001 in order to qualify instead of Al-Ansar as the
second team of the second group.
