Viceroy Cup 2001
Al-Ansar tied with Ikhaa Ahley Aley [2-2]  November 8, 2001

Al-Ansar qualified to the semi-finals of Viceroy Cup 2001 after drawing with Ikhaa Ahley Aley [2-2] in the match that took place on Thursday November 8, 2001 5:45 p.m., at Beirut Sports City Stadium. Al-Ansar, last year title holder, was able to convert its 0-2 deficit till the 64th. minute into a 2-2 draw and thus managed to eliminate Ikhaa Ahley, and qualify as the Fourth team in the semi finals where they shall face Tadamoun Sour on Saturday November 10, 2001 8:30 p.m., at Beirut Sports City Stadium. Al-Ansar performance was poor in the First Half with a lot of broken passes, and Ikhaa Ahley were able to advance on the 44th. minute when Z. Samad GK of Al-Ansar failed to hold the ball after Ahmad Mansour kick, the ball bounced back to Mohammad Ayyoubi who hit it into the net [1-0] for Ikhaa. In the second half, Gelberto Dos Santos crossed the ball from the right wing side, it reached the unmarked Zaher Alaandari who hit it beyond the reach of Z. Samad [2-0] for Ikhaa.

Gelberto lost most of his energy

Ever after, Al-Ansar players resurrected and started the attack.. Many shots went near Ikhaa target until the first sign of hope came on the 65th. minute when H. Moussa GK of Ikhaa failed to catch the ball properly, and this allowed Haitham Hallak snatched the ball with his head from him inside the target reducing the score sheet to 1-2. Shortly after, Al-Ansar players were still continuing their pressure when a forward pass reached P. Prospar who broke the offside, faced the goal keeper alone, and hit the ball inside the target. Al-Ansar equalized [2-2]. The situation was turned upside down, and now Al-Ansar became in while Ikhaa was out. Furthermore, The remaining minutes of the match witnessed rather shy attempts from both teams to change the score. The result remained [2-2], Al-Ansar qualified, Ikhaa went out.

Al-Ansar now shall face Tadamoun Sour in a repeat of last year Final match that went for Al-Ansar [1-0] with the goal scored then by Peter Prospar. Tadamoun Sour will be eager to bring Al-Ansar a defeat backed with huge self-confidence after defeating Nejmeh [2-0] on Wednesday November 7, 2001, in order to open the road to a First Viceroy Cup title and thus carving their club's name on the Golden trophy as the 6th. title holder.
